What is WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is a free smartphone application (or “app”) used for sending messages and making calls via your smartphone Internet connection. This means that you can make a voice call, just like you normally do via landline or your mobile phone, but in addition to that you can make video calls, as well as send text messages, photographs, recorded voice messages and other files. You can communicate one-on-one with a friend or a family member or join a group chat.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular applications for calling and messaging, serving more than 2 billion users in over 180 countries.

Why is WhatsApp better than landline/mobile calls?
